One of our current projects is focusing on second-hand IMO Product Tankers
Whereas listed Product Tanker companies focus on a modern fleet and generally seek to sell tonnage before reaching the age of 15 years (or even 10 years), this investment case is to pick up the value discounted vessels at age 10 years plus, with a sweet spot likely for vessels aged 12 years of age, giving a certain runway before the vessel has to enter into 3rd special survey dry-dock at the age of 15 years, and then keep trading the vessels towards 4th special survey at age 20 years.
The IMO Product Tanker in the 35-47.000 tdw size are the “work-horse” of the Product Tanker market, will always find employment, with commercial idle time basically non-existent. The vessel size gives access to ports world-wide, and are met with very few restrictions. Versatile cargo capacity enables triangulation trading, and the vessel’s IMO classification makes it possible to trade not only with clean petroleum, but also dirty petroleum, vegetable-palm oils, and “easy” chemicals, offering the possibility to optimize on the laden/ballast ratio.
The target is to acquire quality Handysize and MR IMO Product Tankers (37.000-48.000 tdw) built 2002-2007 with SWM providing the specialized Technical and Commercial Management services for these 10+ year of age sophisticated Petroleum Tankers, thus enabling an owner to manage and operate vessels through 20 years of age.
